These are the cave that house the generators keeping the city floating in the clouds. In classic Trek fashion, paradise is hiding a dark secret. When the boy is hooked up, the cave lights up with him as the power source. The set portion and chair for the boy went through many iterations. The exploration mostly centered around the chair - going from ceremony, to horror, to human battery.
